Most programmers don’t understand how to prompt ChatGPT correctly and are missing out on one of the biggest opportunities ever available to the public.

The few who do understand how the language model works (and, more importantly: How to communicate with it) are currently:

  • Get a week’s work done in a day
  • Getting high paying job-offers left-right-and center
  • Become irreplaceable at their workplace and get to enjoy higher levels of freedom and independence

So yeah, it’s worth learning…

Let me start today by discussing the biggest mistakes programmers usually make when prompting ChatGPT and why you’d never make the same mistake ordering a pizza.

Because believe it or not, ordering pizza and giving instructions to the language model are pretty similar. Let me explain.

Imagine you’re starving, and you order a pizza.

You pick up the phone, dial in the numbers of your favorite restaurant, and order “a pizza.”

You can’t wait till the pizza arrives, but when it finally does, you open the box and are disappointed.

“That’s just tomato sauce and bread! Wtf!”

Okay, okay… I get that this would never happen in the real world.

Firstly, because you’ve ordered pizza before and know what you want on it, so you will naturally add context to your order.

But even if you didn’t and are the weirdo who says: “Bring me a pizza,” the person on the receiving end would start asking questions to clarify what you want.

Now, I hate to break the news to you…

But our old buddy ChatGPT isn’t human :(

It doesn’t have the necessary human experience to add context to your prompts and will give you quite literally what you ask for.

So just as you would order your pizza with certain toppings, you need to give ChatGPT context on what you mean.

Examples of toppings we programmers should add are:
